The Education Review Office (ERO) is the New Zealand government department that evaluates and reports on the education and care of students in New Zealand schools. Kohimarama School was reviewed by the Education Review Office (ERO) in September 2018.

The report acknowledged the high quality education the school provides for all students and the resulting high levels of achievement. Students achieve at a very high level in reading, writing and mathematics in relation to National Standards. This is part of a broad curriculum that provides many choices and leadership opportunities, including initiatives focused on 21st Century learning.

The school is recognised as having an inclusive culture, underpinned by the values outlined in The Kohimarama Way. Of note are the respectful relationships modelled by staff in support of student learning and wellbeing.

Parents provide strong support for the school, actively participating and contributing to the life of the school in many significant ways.

The school is seen as very well placed to sustain and improve its performance. The Board is united in its vision for the school and school leaders work well together. Teachers are well supported with professional development and leadership opportunities.

The Educational Review Office have approximately 12 per cent of schools in New Zealand on a four-to-five year review schedule, when they can demonstrate exceptional performance. Kohimarama School is on a four-to-five year review cycle.
