Why Kohimarama School?

A Welcome From the Principal

Paul Engles, Principal.

Kohimarama School has been at the heart of the Kohimarama community for a very long time and has stood the test of time as has our motto ‘Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve‘. While our beautiful site has expanded and developed over time our New Entrants are still watched over by the original 1921 school building.

We have become known for our continued record of high achievement. Behind this success is a clear sense of purpose, and an incredibly strong community of parents, teachers and students.

Our Purpose

I am proud to lead a school that truly embraces our purpose: “To instil a passion for life-long learning and for making positive contributions to society.

Where Students Belong & Achieve

Our children learn to belong and achieve through rich and varied learning experiences as we prepare them to be well-rounded learners and leaders of the future. This is supported by many opportunities within and beyond the curriculum including education outside the classroom, school sport, the school band programme, the choir, dance groups, Kapa Haka and the hotly contested house challenge system. While ‘The Kohimarama Way’ values programme supports our desire to develop positive habits and character in our children.

Where Staff are Empowered Educational Leaders

Our staff are empowered to be educational leaders through collegial support and sharing and their own rich professional learning experiences, as we identify and respond to the developing needs of our 21st century learners.

Where Parents are Informed & Engaged

Our school parents are informed and engaged in the life of the school through the Parent Teacher Association, school events, regular parent helper roles and participation in information evenings and student achievement discussions. Kohimarama School parents continue to give generously through school donations and fundraising to enable the school to enhance teaching and learning facilities and resources.

Where the Community is Connected & Contributing

We welcome the participation and contribution of our wider community which enhances many learning opportunities and sees our school facilities well utilized with many sporting and cultural activities available to children after school.

Welcome to Kohimarama School!
