Dear Parents and caregivers
Over the past two months the Board have been actively working through a process to appoint a new Deputy Principal following the resignation of Debbie Ellery in February. To facilitate the process, the Board engaged education sector recruitment specialist, The Education Group. After interviewing a short list of four very strong candidates, the Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Carrie Mills.
For those unfamiliar with Carrie, she is currently the Cowley Team Leader here at Kohimarama School, is a highly respected member of the teaching team, and has grown into several leadership roles at the School over the past ten years. Carrie is in her second term as the elected Teacher representative on the Board of Trustees and is the Within School Kahui Ako leader, (which involves her working across the school with all teaching Teams).
As a Board we found ourselves in a fortunate position where any of the four candidates we interviewed were capable of stepping into the role. However, Carrie stood out for her strong understanding of the pedagogical (teaching practice) and curriculum changes currently facing schools and her ability to lead change in a manner that embodies the Kohimarama Way. By way of example, within a few years she has led the Cowley team from single classroom teaching to hub teaching, with the Year Three hub now rated by industry experts for its exemplary co-teaching practices.
The Board would like to congratulate Carrie and are thrilled to see the School’s commitment to professional development resulting in the internal appointment of such a high-calibre leader. Carrie will be transitioning into her new role over the next two months before Debbie leaves us in July, and the school’s Senior Leadership team will ensure the Year Three hub is left in very capable hands and students’ learning continues to thrive.
The Board of Kohimarama School.
