A Message from Kiri Team

Kia ora from Kiri.

What an exciting start to the term we have had!

Constable Gordon

We had Constable Gordon visiting Kiri Team in Week 4. He talked to us about the importance of car seats, crossing driveways and road safety when out walking. We had a ride in his police car and got to try on police uniforms-no tasers!

Inquiry –  Ko Wai Au? (Who am I?)

We have been learning about ourselves, our culture and identity, where we live, where we go to school and our family. Room 3 and 4 have done some writing and artwork about what makes them special. Room 1 and 2 have been learning to write and say their own mihi using pictures to support.

Discovery Learning

Thank goodness the sun has come out and we can take advantage of learning outside. The children have had the opportunity to explore with water, construct with the building materials, keep our garden tidy and make friendships.

Eco Warriors

Have been using tally charts to work out how much rubbish we can find in Kiri Team. We are hoping to reduce our rubbish count significantly. Using this real problem has shown the importance of gathering data to inform our decision making. Our Kiri gardens continue to look beautiful and well cared for. It is a lovely way to enter the school.Thank you to everybody who continues to help πŸ™‚

Beach Trip

This week the Kiri team is going on an adventure to Kohimarama Beach. We will apply our road safety skills and practise some statistical skills of collecting and sorting natural resources found at the beach. We can’t wait to get out and explore our local neighbourhood.

The Kohimarama Way – Friendliness

How you know you are practising Friendliness: you like yourself and realise you have a lot to offer, you smile and greet someone you don’t know, you get to know someone and let them get to know you, you show an interest in others, you show caring when a friend needs you and you are friendly to people who look and act different.

Homestay Families Needed

Our school will be expecting visiting students from overseas arriving early June 2023 for 3-4 weeks at a time.

To facilitate these students we are looking for homestay families to host them.

Hosts will be paid a minimum of $300 per person, per week.  Students are placed two per home and can share a room but must have their own bed.

If you would like more information or an application pack, please contact Debbie from Student-Care NZ Limited on debbie@nzstudentcare.com or 09 390 7838 Mobile 027 285 7838

Recycling:

Last week at Junior Assembly we focused on using the correct bin for our rubbish.

Gardening Opportunity:

We are looking for  Kohimarama families that are interested in gardening, adopting a small area of the School Gardens, and maintaining it. Nothing too big or overwhelming. If that sounds like something your family would be interested in, please email Tamara Bartlett at tamarachristie21@hotmail.com
