A Message from Snell Team
Year 7&8s Selwyn Technology
Every Tuesday afternoon, the Year 7 and 8’s in Snell team walk our way up to Selwyn College for Technology classes.
This term, our groups are taking part in Food Technology and Digital Design.
In Food Technology our focus is on cooking at home for the family. We will do this in a number of ways and hopefully learn a variety of techniques to use in the kitchen at home! We will cook different types of food using different methods that we can use at home. The idea is to cook these things in less than an hour while still keeping things healthy.
Sophia, Juella and Lalita, Rm 23
‘In Digital Design we are exploring designing online and then we will get to use a 3-D printer. We are starting to design a keychain! I am excited to do this class because we get to use lego and minecraft type designs on Tinkercad to make our key chain. 3-D printing it will be really cool because I get to wear my keychain on my bag and not only did I make it, but I designed it too!”
Theani, Rm 23
Becoming a Year 6 at Kohimarama School
It has been a great year and becoming a Year 6 at Kohimarama school is very exciting. We are now seniors of the school and have become members of the Snell team. Being a part of the Year 6 Hub means being able to collaborate with other people and get to know others better. Every time you enter the Year 6 Hub you feel warm and welcome. Often on the balcony you can see Rangitoto, which is breathtaking. We have more freedom and privilege learning in the Year 6 Hub. We are looking forward to Thursday’s Unplugged and our Year 6 camp in Term 2!

No Cash Payments
A friendly reminder to not send cash to the office for payments. Payments via Kindo or Eftpos.
Roll Return 2023
Twice a year, in March and July, all schools in New Zealand are required to furnish the Ministry of Education with a Roll Return detailing all students enrolled at their schools. This Return determines our funding and staffing for the remainder of the school year. If your child is going to be absent or late for any reason on Wednesday 1st March 2023, the office will require a letter or email from a parent/guardian justifying the student’s absence from school. This correspondence is to be provided to the School Office at office@kohimarama.school.nz. Thank you in advance.
Community Service Helpers
This year, the Year 7 and 8 Hub will be taking part in the William Pike Challenge.
Part of this challenge is volunteering some time to do Community service work.
We would like to know if you have a business, or organisation that could do with some support.
The specifications we are working with are below.
To meet our Community Service requirements they must be:
- Voluntary work done for free to give back to the community.
- Not done for a business who will make a profit.
- Approved by an adult supervisor on the Challenge Hub
EXAMPLES OF COMMUNITY SERVICE ARE:
- Volunteering and helping at a care home for the elderly
- Volunteering and helping younger children at a preschool or community group such as Brownies or Cubs
- Fundraising and collecting for a local or national charity
- Volunteering and working at your local SPCA
- Volunteering and being involved in beach clean ups, planting days, street and park clean ups etc
If you are able to help us, help you, please email kcadzow@kohimarama.school.nz.

PTA News
Save the Date
Save the date for the Kohimarama School Gala Dinner and Auction Night. The largest PTA fundraiser for the year, it promises to be a grand night for all! 2 Sept 2023.

Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser
Let’s raise some dough for the school with mouth-watering Hot Cross Buns from Bakers Delight St Heliers! $2 from each order goes to the school. Orders open via Kindo until 4 March. Collect on 8 March

PTA Chairs
We are urgently looking for PTA Chairs. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) organisation is run by parents and an integral part of our school. We work with the school to fundraise, organise community events and activities through the year, and provide a link between parents and school management.
The PTA is looking for new Chairs to lead the group this year. We have a well-established calendar of events and an awesome team of PTA supporters who help to make them happen.
This is a good role for two people to share and puts you right at the heart of our Kohimarama School community. If you are interested or have questions, please email kohiptasecretary@gmail.com. Thank you!
The Gala Committee needs parents to help plan our Gala event.
From one-off parent helpers to talented planners, performers, or sponsors; we would love your involvement, small or large. Please email kohiptasecretary@gmail.com to find out more.
