A Message from Cowley Team

Cowley Team have been learning about Earth Systems and Space for our Inquiry this term. As part of our Inquiry process we ‘dreamed’ and ‘wondered’ about what an Earth System is. We discovered that there are four main Earth Systems – the Hydrosphere, the Atmosphere, the Geosphere and the Biosphere. We also discovered that Space is in the ‘Exosphere’!

To get further ‘inspired’ about our learning we visited the Stardome and the One Tree Hill Domain last Monday. We had a great time exploring the Planetarium and taking part in a scavenger hunt on One Tree Hill Domain  –  looking for things that can be found in the Geosphere (rocks and landforms etc) and Biosphere (plants and animals etc).

Here is what some Year Three students thought about the trip and what they learnt…

I liked watching the movie in the Stardome. The little star was the Sun. – Louis, Rm 26

I liked singing songs on the bus. We did a scavenger hunt in Stardome and we found different facts about Space. The first person to walk on the moon was called Buzz Aldrin – Emilia, Rm 27

We were learning how the Earth goes around the Sun. Sam was holding the Sun and Emma was Earth and Jay was the moon. Emma was spinning around the Sun and walking around it while Jay walked around her. – Ambra, Rm 26

I liked the dome and I learnt that red stars are cold and blue stars are hot. – Zeke, Rm 25

The Year 2s did some writing about their trip…

Here are some other photos showing what we got up to…

The Kohimarama Way – Respect

Think about how you would like others to treat you and treat them with the same dignity.  How would you like others to speak to you, treat your belongings, and your right to privacy?  If you want to use someone else’s things, ask, and then take good care of them.  Express even your strongest feelings in a peaceful way.  Treat yourself as you feel others deserve to b treated.  You deserve it too!

Homestay Families Needed

Our school will be expecting visiting students from Korea arriving 9th January and departing 25th February 2023.

To facilitate these students we are looking for homestay families to host them.

Although they arrive before the start of Term One, these students will attend school each weekday in January 2023.

Host’s will be paid $300 per student, per week – usually placing two students per home.

Students can share a room but must have their own bed.

If you would like more information or an application pack, please contact Debbie from Student-Care NZ Limited on debbie@nzstudentcare.com or 09 390 7838 Mobile 027 285 7838
