A Message from Snell Team

“In week 6 Snell Team were lucky enough to have the guys from ‘Drone Legends’ come into school. We learnt all about drones, how they fly and how they work. We learnt about all of the features and parts too! This was timed perfectly as we were learning about flight in Science.

We had the privilege to control and direct the drone. We were able to try all the different roles needed when flying a drone. Including; the pilot, co-pilot, and safety person. Each person had their own role and coloured vest to wear including safety glasses. The pilot used the control tablet to control the drone.  The co-pilot helped to direct and assist the pilot and they would hint out all the mistakes if there were any. The safety person had a series of phrases and signals to help the pilot control the drone.

Overall we found it a rather splendid morning with the guys from Drone Legends.

We all learnt some interesting facts about drones and flight that we didn’t know before.

Brought to you proudly by Olivia C and Acacia G”

The Kohimarama Way – Honesty

“Don’t expect loyalty when you can’t provide honesty.”  Honesty is synonymous with trust, respect and loyalty.  We need to know that we can trust what a person says and often this is seen through actions.  We feel respect when we can trust the person, even if we don’t agree with them and from this loyalty grows.

News

Come Cool to School Day  –  this Friday 9th September

We are encouraging all students and staff to come to school wearing their pyjamas on Friday, just for fun.  There is no cost to this initiative that the Student Councillors have organised.

Interschool Speech Competition – Rehu Tai

Congratulations to the 6 students I took to the interschool speech finals last week.  We had 3 students represent us superbly at each of the two competitions.

  • Will R in Prepared Speech
  • Juella G in Flash Talk
  • Scarlett W in Spoken Word Poetry

Years 5 and 6

  • Abigail J in Prepared Speech
  • Fletcher D in Flash Talk
  • Juliette P in Spoken Word Poetry

Fantastic news was that all 6 performed with confidence and skill, which resulted in Scarlett coming 1st in her section and Fletcher coming 3rd in his.

Scarlett will now go on to the Auckland Champion of Champions competition on Thursday this week at Manurewa Intermediate.  We wish her all the best and know that you will support her in her final step of the competition.

pre-enrolment form

If you have already completed this we will have a record of your child. If you are currently living out of the school zone and have a sibling about to turn 5, please inform the office office@kohimarama.school.nz as all of this information assists the Board with their Out of Zone discussions.

Mobile Phone and Smart Watch Permission

Permission is required for all students bringing a mobile phone or smart watch to school. Please refer to the website and complete the ‘request for permission form’ for your child.

Request for Permission Form

It is important that students are aware of the guidelines around device use and that they adhere to these during school hours.

Student Absences

Please remember when communicating your child’s absence that it is a Ministry requirement that you state a reason for absence eg, headache, illness, holiday or dental appointment. If no reason is given your child may be marked unjustified. (Unjustified is considered Truant).

The School Uniform Centre – Moving Address

Effective in term 4, The School Uniform Centre will be moving to new premises in Epsom. We will publish the new address at the end of term 3. Online orders will continue as normal.

There will be a slight increase in prices effective from the 1st November.

Welcome to the Library!

This term Kohimarama School is celebrating the international languages by providing different resources to show the diversity of our school.  Cultural diversity is one of few principles of the NZ Curriculum that reflects our linguistically and culturally diverse nation.  It helps to promote inclusion and respect of diverse values, customs and languages.

Kohimarama Library officially opened the International Language Corner with books in many languages.  Thanks to Mrs Walkinshaw students can see the profiles of their classmates who came from other countries and learn more about those places.  They can learn how to say Hello in 29 other languages and see the flags of other countries.  We are proud to create a welcome place for all students to bring their valued knowledge into the school.
