A Message from Kiri Team

Kia ora from Kiri.

The sun is out at last! We were so lucky yesterday that the weather held and all our Cross Country races were able to be run. It was a fabulous day with students doing their very best 🙂 Thank you Don for the awesome organization.

What an exciting week! Kiri Team had ‘Science in a Van’ arrive today and they did several amazing experiments. We learnt that scientists make predictions and create mixtures, then they make observations and learn about the reactions that happened.

The students were so excited as they observed the giant bubbles rising in the air. This science show was a part of our Kitchen Science Inquiry. We hope our little scientists have not been creating too many crazy mixtures at home:)

We would like to give a big welcome to Room 3.  Mrs Ewen has opened the doors at the beginning of this Term and we have many lovely new faces joining Kiri Team. Welcome to all the new families.

Please have a little wander through our Kiri Team Gardens. We have had some amazing students from Kiri Team working with some green thumbed parents and grandparents to make our garden a little oasis!

Arohanui,

Kiri Team

News

School Counsellors slots are now full

Our two counsellors who work on a Tuesday are now fully booked.  This means that from this date forward they have no space for new clients.

School Disco – this Friday 26th August

  • Junior Disco 5.00-6.00pm  (Yrs 0-4)
  • Senior Disco 6.30-8.00pm (Yrs 5-8)

Our theme is Starry Night, students are able to come dressed based on the theme or in any casual wear that is appropriate for the event.  We ask due to being in Level Orange for Covid and the small space of our hall that parents drop their child/ren off at the Hall door.  We have class teachers and student councillors to support our Junior Disco and class teachers for the Senior Disco.  $5 tickets are available only through Kindo, there will be no door sales.

Enrolments – 2023

As we start our 2023 planning, if you have a child due to start at Kohimarama School in the next 18 months, please assist us by completing a pre-enrolment form

pre-enrolment form

If you have already completed this we will have a record of your child. If you are currently living out of the school zone and have a sibling about to turn 5, please inform the office office@kohimarama.school.nz as all of this information assists the Board with their Out of Zone discussions.

Road Patrol

We are looking for parents who are prepared to support our students by being Road Patrol supervisors on Rawhitiroa Road Thursday mornings 8.25 to 8.55 am or Kohimarama Road Friday morning 825 to 8.55 am.  If you are interested or would like to find out more, please contact Meegan Hill mhill@kohimarama.school.nz  Thank you.

Photolife visit Thursday, August 25th

Photolife will be at school on Thursday the 25th to take Sports and Group photos. Please ensure your children bring the correct uniform or sports uniform for their photo(s). Sibling photos will take place at our session in October.

Coaches and Managers wishing to be in the team/group photo have been advised by email the sitting time of their team. Please give yourself an extra five to ten minutes leeway in case we manage to run ahead of schedule.

Mobile Phone and Smart Watch Permission

Permission is required for all students bringing a mobile phone or smart watch to school. Please refer to the website and complete the ‘request for permission form’ for your child.

Request for Permission Form

It is important that students are aware of the guidelines around device use and that they adhere to these during school hours.

Student Absences

Please remember when communicating your child’s absence that it is a Ministry requirement that you state a reason for absence eg, headache, illness, holiday or dental appointment. If no reason is given your child may be marked unjustified. (Unjustified is considered Truant).

COVID/Sickness Update

We continue to monitor absences due to colds, flu and COVID within the school.  At present we have a low incidence of COVID and absences due to general sickness remain consistent with what would be expected at this time of the year.

TRAFFIC AND PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL

Please continue to support the safety of our students at drop off and pick up times by:

  • parking / waiting in designated parking areas
  • Keeping bus stops and neighbours driveways clear
  • Using patrolled crossing areas
  • Keeping school driveway clear and accessible

The School Uniform Centre – Moving Address

Effective in term 4, The School Uniform Centre will be moving to new premises in Epsom. We will publish the new address at the end of term 3. Online orders will continue as normal.

There will be a slight increase in prices effective from the 1st November.

Welcome to the Library!

This week we are inviting everybody to the magical world of Hogwarts.  Our library acquired three new illustrated Harry Potter books. These books are gorgeously illustrated  by Jim Kay in full colour and present the well known Harry Potter story in the new light.

Students will participate in a variety of the themed activities during the week and play Kahoot to challenge their knowledge.  Please bring your devices to the library to join the Harry Potter Kahoot! and find out how much you know about the world of wizards.

Please remember to return your overdue copies so you could issue a Harry Potter book.
