A Message from Kiri Team

Tēnā koutou from Kiri

We had a superb start to the 2022 school year! The students are coming in settled and ready to learn. Our Discovery Learning has been helping to ease the transition to school as well as offering some key learning opportunities. Room 4 students have been learning about the different birds from Aotearoa and creating bird feeders. Other students have been enjoying water play, experimenting with gravity, and using gutters to build waterfalls. Kiri gardens have many students learning how to care for plants and insects and we have our builders and architects creating and designing new huts and mazes.

Kiri Team spent the first couple of weeks at school learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and our School Values. Students discussed how they could make their classes awesome! Then they designed their own waka and wrote these qualities on their paddles. This is how we created our class treaties.

We have now started an Inquiry into “Emotions”. Classes are learning about the range of feelings we experience in different situations and languages, and how to recognise these feelings in ourselves and others.

Rippa Rugby has been exciting- a highlight on Monday afternoons. It has been hot, fun and worthwhile!

Even Theodore knows his te reo 🙂

We are all looking forward to continuing this momentum and excitement to learn into the rest of the school year.

Ngā mihi,

Kiri Team

The Kohimarama Way – Compassion

“If you want others to be happy practise compassion.  If you want to be happy practise compassion.”  “Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion.”  “In separateness lies the world’s greatest misery; in compassion lies the world’s true strength.”

News

School Swimming Sports Yrs 5 – 8 (Thursday March 10th)

A reminder for those students who are entering our swimming sports to bring your togs/towel, water bottle, and snack food to eat.  Year 7/8, Year 6, and Year 5 year groups will be at the Sacred Heart Pool complex at a separate time from each other and swimming within their bubble.  We will unfortunately not be able to have any spectators at Red Level.

House Points to be won….

  1. Remember if you wear your House T-shirt every second Friday (the Friday we don’t have online assembly) you can score points for your House.  House T-shirt Friday is this week.
  2. If you bring your lunch on the same Friday with no wrappers in it, you also win points for your House.  That means no glad wrap or other plastic wrappings in your lunchbox.

Students with Mobiles phone or Smart Watches

Any students brining mobile phones or smart watches need permission from the school. If you have not already received permission please follow this link to do so.
