A Message from Hillary Team

We’ve had a great start to 2022! We’d love to tell you what we’ve done so far. The Hillary Team had a fun rotation in Week 2. In our rotation we completed learning around Art, Sport, Coding, Music, Drama, STEAM, and scavenger hunts. For our first scavenger hunt we were looking for metal native birds around the school which link to our Learner Dispositions, and for our second scavenger hunt we were learning about Waitangi Day. We’ve done lots of fun sports games too, we have played tag and rugby games. For STEAM, we were provided with some resources and challenged to create a boat that can float. We worked collaboratively and created various designs. We tested our boat in water to see if we were successful in our designs. We learnt about Waitangi Day, and the Treaty of Waitangi. We even made our own class treaty too! We have also made our school and home goals for the year and we are really excited for the rest of the term.

The Kohimarama Way – Compassion

Compassion begins by noticing when someone seems sad or troubled.  Put yourself in their place and ask how you would feel if it were happening to you.  Think about how you can help.  Take time to listen, and then say kind things like “What are you sad about?” and “How can I help?”  Be forgiving when others make mistakes.  Be a friend when someone needs a friend.

Parents to support by supervising Road Patrol – are you free?

Thank you to the four parents who have volunteered, really appreciate your support of our students.  For those of you who are keen but haven’t got around to letting me know we still have openings just for you.  Please email me  you would be on call from 8.25 to 8.55 am one morning in the week supervising our trained Road Patrollers.  Thanks for your help.

TaxGift and School Donations

In 2021 we were able to increase our school revenue by families utilising TaxGft to gift the tax credit component of their school donation back to the school.

With TaxGift, your donations to the school are boosted by up to 43% at no cost to you.

Here’s how: As a NZ taxpayer you can claim a tax credit of 33% on the school donations you make, but if you choose to gift that tax credit to Kohimarama School, TaxGift will turn it into even more for our school – all as a gift in your name.

It takes less than one minute, and you won’t need to do anything further. TaxGift will make your donation grow.

Centennial Celebrations 2021

Planning for our Centennial year started several years ago.  A great weekend of celebrations had been organised for September 2021 for current students, families and our alumni community. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to the challenges of Covid and a modified event planned for March 2022.  Once again this has had to be cancelled and will not now be rescheduled.

The school will mark the Centennial with the planting of the Centennial Tree later in the year.

On behalf of the school community we would like to extend our thanks to Linda Millward, the Centennial Committee and the PTA  for all their work in planning and replanning these events and the huge amount of work that went into this.

We would also like to thank our teachers for the work that they did in 2021 interweaving the Centennial into our student’s learning and for preparing for the planned Art Gallery.

We are however going ahead with publishing the Centennial Magazine, in commemoration of Kohimarama School’s Centennial, we’ve created a magazine that honours and celebrates 100 years of school and local community memories. A 64 page ‘bookshop worthy’ printed magazine jam packed full of historical information, pictures of school life and lots of memories from students past and present. Also includes key events & milestones, Principal, PTA and BOT reflections over the years, sports, arts, music, recipes and much more!.

It will be a fantastic keepsake for all families past and present. Indicative cost will be approximately $30-$35 (dependant on print numbers). Please pre-register for your copy today. Magazines will be ready in March, with a final cost advised once we can confirm print quantities required.
