A Message from Deputy Principal Meegan Hill

It is fabulous to be back at school onsite seeing children and adults in real life instead of looking at a flat-screen – it does make a difference.  Whilst we are back at school on a part-time basis at the moment, it is impacting positively on our students’ wellbeing and learning.  Talking to them, the most common advantage to being at school that our students shared is “seeing our friends”, “socialising”, “playing on the big playground spaces with our friends”, “having time with friends”.  Our students have also reflected that it makes a positive difference to their learning, “it is easier to learn having our teacher with us”, “we have our teacher all day to help us”, “I get better at Maths being at school”,  “online learning is hard because there is no teacher”.  The environment played a part as well, some students noted that being at home caused some difficulty because “they got distracted by other people at home”, “we were a bit lazier at home, coming back to school has made us work harder”,  “it was a bit cramped at home”, “it is easier to learn at school”.

Welcome to Room 24 who started their first weeks online with their teachers Mrs Ewen and Ms Maissin.  They are very fortunate to also have Matilda as their Learning Assistant.  Room 24 are working hard and learning a lot at school, we are very proud of their flexibility and resilience in this ‘different’ start to their educational journey here at Kohimarama School.

The Kohimarama Way – Respect

“Respect is a lot more important, and a lot greater than popularity.”  “Respect for self, Respect for others.  Responsibility for all actions.”

Can Appeal for City Mission

Please remember we are collecting cans of food this week for people and families who need support at this time of year and with what Covid19 has dealt them.  If you are able to support, please send in one or two cans of food with your child/ren this week.  It will make a difference, thank you.
