A Message from Kiri Team

Kia ora from Kiri,

Ready! Set! Go! The school cross country meet is this Friday down at Madills Farm. Last week Kiri team was very lucky with their running practice. Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 just managed to slip a practice run in between the squalls! The students looked confident and excited running the course, hopefully, fingers crossed we will have a dry day with no rain!

This term has started with students curious and keen to learn about the Olympic Games. Our Olympic Inquiry started with many questions from the students, such as ‘Why do we have an Olympics?’ ‘What does it mean?’ These questions and others will guide us through our Inquiry. The students have been fascinated by the huge variety of sports that are now part of the games and amazed at the equipment used. Students have been learning about different flag designs, the symbolism and colours, and the wide range of countries taking part. There have been frequent eruptions of joy during races and especially when we win and receive a medal!!

Last Friday, our school assembly was hosted by Rooms 4 and 5 who of course used an Olympic theme. All the students dressed as athletes and had fun demonstrating their particular skills in various sports. It was quite delightful! Students spoke confidently when using the microphone and were not fazed by the large crowd. Pretty good for 5 and 6 year olds 🙂 Enjoy the last week of the Olympics and see you down at Madills Farm.

The Kohimarama Way – Friendliness

Friendliness keeps you and others from feeling lonely or left out.  It helps people feel that they belong.  When something good or bad happens, it feels good to share it with a friend.  Friendships don’t just happen  –  they are made by people who are willing to be themselves with each other.
