COVID-19 – 28 February 2021

28 February 2021

Dear Parents

There have been additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Auckland.

As a result, the Government announced that the whole of Auckland will move from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 3 for the next 7 days.

The key message for you is that you should keep your child at home. You should only physically send your child to school if you need to because there is no one able to look after your child. If your child has a health condition that means they are at a greater risk of a severe illness, you must keep them at home. If your child is sick please also ensure you keep them at home.

This Google form will collect data from our community about our students and coordinate the planning for those students who need to come to school on Monday 1 March – Friday 5th March. You do not need to complete the form if your children will remain at home.

If you do not have an adult to supervise your children and they are coming to school it is most important that this form is filled in and returned to school. The form will tell us whether you can keep your child learning from home, or need your child to attend school in person. We would appreciate a quick response, no later than 4pm today Sunday 28 February. A non return will be taken as not returning to school on Monday 1 March

In order to ensure the safety of those children and our staff who do come to school, we will be operating with strict enforcement of health and safety measures with guidance from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.

We will be open for those of you who have no other options but to send your children to school and we will have safety precautions in place to look after them.

This is for a period of a week at this time and we will be activating our distance learning plan tomorrow morning. Our teachers will be meeting tomorrow morning between 8am and 10.00am. After this short preparation time, Kiri teachers will Google Meet with their

students at 10.30am, Cowley teachers at 11.00am, Hillary teachers at 11.30am and Snell teachers at 12.00am. Your teachers will contact you regarding online learning, just after 10.00am. First and foremost we want to stay connected to you and your children.

COVID-19 continues to be a factor we need to consider, and I assure you we have a robust plan and will do everything we need to for your children and your wider family and whānau.

If the situation changes, we will be in touch again. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.

I want to assure you that we will continue to support your child’s learning at home. Teachers will still be following our online learning process over the next period of Alert Level 3 as movement is still restricted and we anticipate that the vast majority of students will be working from home.

Your circumstances might change as level 3 continues and in that case, you will need to contact the school ahead of having your child(ren) return. We will be unable to have children attend without prior notification. office@kohimarama.school.nz

For now, we will continue to support your child’s learning by distance while we progress our planning for what Alert Level 3 will mean for you and for our school. We will be in touch again soon with more information. As you have been doing, please keep connecting with your teachers with any questions you might have.

Reminder

  • Complete the Google form immediately and no later than 4pm Sunday 28 February

Yours sincerely

Paul Engles
