A Message from Cowley team

Cowley Team’s thoughts on our trip to the Auckland Zoo

We were a very excited bunch of Cowley Team children, teachers and parents/caregivers heading to Auckland Zoo on Tuesday 20th of October.  It was our first School Trip of the year and we were well prepared for a successful trip, rain or shine.  The day was a perfect mixture of sunny and cloudy with a nice breeze to keep us cool during our outdoor education sessions. The children also enjoyed the relaxed pace of the self-guided portion of the trip and being able to explore the zoo with their classmates.  What an amazing day we had learning about all the animals, their habitats and how animals adapt to their habitats!

We are studying Animals for our Inquiry Topic in Term 4 and here is a sample of things that the students want to know:

How fast does a cheetah run? Terrence

Why do cheetahs have spots? Saskia

How do penguins Move? Evie

Are cheetahs the fastest animal in the world? Zeven

What do kiwi eat? Natalie

How do flamingoes clean themselves? Allie

Do komodo dragons swim? Harry

Why do penguins love swimming? Huxley

The Kohimarama Way – Honesty

When you act with honour, you do the right thing regardless of what others are doing.  You keep your promises, without anyone reminding or nagging you.  You honour your elders by speaking respectfully to them.  You honour yourself by being your best.  When you act with honour, you set a good example, not to be admired, but just because it is the right thing to do.   An honest Person does the right thing, even when someone isn’t watching over them.

School Assembly Changes for Term 4

Due to the increase in school roll size, we are now required to split our school assemblies into two. Therefore our Senior School Assemblies (Snell and Hillary) will be held at 9.15am on Fridays fortnightly and Junior Assemblies (Cowley and Kiri) will be held at 10.15am on the same fortnight. These are also listed on the school calendar.

School Disco – Last sales

Our Disco is this Friday, 30th October and tickets are on sale before and after school outside our school hall each morning this week.  The last ticket sales will be sold Friday morning as we need numbers to purchase the snacks and drinks.  Students need a ticket to enter, their previously purchased ones are valid.
Junior Disco 5.00 – 6.00pm            Senior Disco 6.30-8.00pm
Students need to be picked up from the hall at the end of their Disco to ensure their safety.

Photolife – Thursday 29th October

Year 5 and 6 Junior Kids Lit team

We sent our year 5 and 6 Junior Kids Lit team off to compete at St Mary’s School on Thursday.  This quiz is run by teacher and author, Leonie Agnew.  The children read up to 12 set books and had to answer questions and quotes.  Our year 5 team came 7th and our year 6 team came 11th.  A great result.  Well done to Isabel, Uliana, Liz, Lara, Nina, Casper, Drew and Max.
