A Message from the E Learning Team

Dear Parents,

You may be aware that the Technology learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum has been revised to strengthen the positioning of digital technologies. This is for all students from year 1–13. The goal of this change is to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to become digitally capable individuals. The change provides a greater focus on students building their skills so they can be innovative creators of digital solutions, moving beyond solely being users and consumers of digital technologies (Ministry of Education).

At Kohimarama we believe this change to the Curriculum fits effortlessly with the school’s vision – Dream, Inspire, Create, Empower. Our goal, as we integrate technology across the curriculum is to develop digital citizens who can dream of solving big problems in our world today, are inspired by the possibilities afforded to us by technology, have the skills to create solutions using available technology and who are empowered to make a difference in their world. Overarching all this we have a responsibility to ensure our students are safe in this new, and ever changing, digital landscape they are growing up in.

The role of the e-learning team is to ensure that across the school best practice is being developed across all year levels to ensure our students have a progressive pathway across the school as they develop their e-learning and digital literacy skills at age appropriate levels. This team is led by Monique Browne from Snell Team, who is joined by Tom Viggo from Hillary Team, Keely Wilson from Cowley Team and Clara Desousa from Kiri Team.

Recently, the school partnered with Family Zone to offer a home-school partnership approach to cyber safety. Family Zone offers families access to the Family Zone app which enables you, as parents, to monitor your child’s safety online, anywhere, anytime. You are invited to join our Family Zone meeting tonight in Room 19/20 where Saunil Hagler from Family Zone will join with Monique Browne to discuss the use of Family Zone at Kohimarama School and how you can benefit from this tool to keep your child safe online.

The Kohimarama Way – Friendliness

Without respect for rules, we would have confusion.  People would treat each other rudely and violate each other’s privacy and other rights.  Respect helps people to feel valued.  Self-respect is making sure no one hurts you or abuses you.  When you respect yourself, others respect you too.

News

School Disco

We are having our School Disco this term, yipee!  Tickets are on sale now, outside the school hall at 8.30 – 8.55 am each morning and 3.00-3.15pm each afternoon.  Tickets cost $5 per student, this entitles students to a snack and a drink as well as paying for our DJ and prizes that are won on the night.
Junior Disco  Years 0-4  5.00-6.00 pm
Senior Disco Years 5-8  6.30 – 8.00

Photolife – Tuesday 18th August

Photolife will be visiting the school on this date to take school groups and team photos.  They will also take new student and sibling photos.
If you wish your family to have a sibling photo taken, please complete a sibling request form from the office.

School Access

Construction work continues around the school grounds.  This, along with the wet weather is making access through the school more challenging.
We currently ask all parents and students to use the main gates on Kohimarama Road, Rawhitiroa Road and Picadilly Place, rather than cutting across the playing field.
We close the fields when conditions are wet to prevent them being damaged and becoming unusable for our students.

Absences

If you have a child staying home for any reason please contact the school office by email, or phone the absentee line 09 930 9826. Childs name, room number and reason for absence must be provided. If no reason for absence is given your child will be marked with an unjustified absence.

We have now set up an absence form on the school website. This can be located on the front page.
