COVID 19 – 2 March 2020

You will have seen the Prime Minister has announced that the first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in New Zealand. This case was identified because the person and the family affected did the right thing and got in touch with health authorities. The patient confirmed with COVID-19 is being treated in Auckland City Hospital. They are in an improving condition in isolation, in a negative pressure room to prevent any spread of the disease.

What is still important is that we are all careful and observe basic health safety. Go to the Ministry of Health website for more information about preventing the risk: COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) guidance – Ministry of Health

  • regularly washing hands (for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap and dry thoroughly)
  • covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze
  • avoiding close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms
  • if you feel unwell you should avoid public gatherings and events
  • cleaning surfaces regularly (when infection is suspected).

Signs and symptoms
