A Message from the Principal
Coronavirus Update
Kohimarama School continues to follow the advice of the Ministries of Health and Education with respect to Coronavirus. We are focusing on strict hygiene in our school e.g asking students to wash hands before eating, after playing etc and introducing a solution to disinfect table surfaces and door handles at the end of each day. Please follow the advice previously given and consult Healthline or your GP for further information. The web address for more information is; https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/novel-coronavirus-china-2019-ncov
Sun Protection
Living in New Zealand, we can enjoy the sunshine and reduce our risk of harm by being sun smart. While it is important to be sun smart at every age, sun-smart behaviour is particularly important for children as getting sunburnt in childhood and adolescence increases the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers later in life.
We require students to wear school hats or caps whenever they are outside and involved in school activities. Students at school without a hat must remain in an allocated shaded area or in the library at break times.
We encourage students to protect themselves with broad spectrum sunscreen (which the school provides) of at least SPF30 (Sun Protection Factor), and by sitting/playing in the shade where possible. Junior students receive help to apply sunscreen, and students with sensitive skin are asked to supply their own sunscreen.
Safer Internet Day NZ 2020
Today is Safer Internet Day! Here is a message from Martin Cocker CEO of Netsafe and Prime Minister Jacinda Adren.
This year we’re urging people to start a kōrero in their whānau and communities about online safety. Our Safer Internet Day NZ website is home to a collection of resources that we hope get the conversation going. Head to the Safer Internet Day website to find online safety conversation starters for parents, our top 5 online safety tips and more.
At Kohimarama School we use Family Zone to have our school and home work together to ensure everyone is safe when online. If you have not yet joined up to your Family Zone account please email Myana mmcleod@kohimarama.school.nz to have your link reshared to you.

A Message from the Library
Welcome back to books! Its a great pleasure to have Kohimarama readers back onboard. During our first short week 463 books have been issued – how amazing!!!
Please note: a maximum of two books are allowed for two weeks and could be returned at any time into the return slot at the issuing desk.
If you have any books that your children have outgrown and you are willing to donate to the school library, we would love to have these books to share with all our students.
If you have unwanted craft materials to donate, I would really appreciate having it. We have many students who love coming to the library to participate in art projects.
Flippa Ball
We are urgently looking for a year 3 or 4 student to join the Kohimarama Flippa Ball team. We are currently one student short of having a full team. Flippa Ball gives children the option of playing a ball sport in the water. They also learn how to play as part of a team and how children with different skills can work to achieve a goal. This is a FUNdamental and transferable. Please contact Aldo Coetzee (aldo.coetsee@gmail.com / 0211860934) if you are interested or want more information.
Community Notices
We will be celebrating Uplands Kindergarten’s 50th birthday with a service on Children’s Day, Sunday 1 March, at 10am in Somervell Church, followed by morning tea in the kindergarten from 11am-1pm.
We would love to have our families and alumni join us for this special event. Please RSVP by email, info@uplandskindergarten.org.nz for catering purposes.
