The school would like to acknowledge the work of the PTA. In conjunction with the school, the PTA has continued to support the purchase of Capital Items such as the playground surfacing and upgrade, technology upgrades including new sound systems for inside the Hall and for outside activities, library book purchases including the donation of books by parents. The PTA continues to support the school in these ways and many other ways. Thank you to Lynda Millward and the PTA team.
2020 Staffing Update
Kohimarama School 100 Jubilee – early 2021
Planning is already underway for this significant event for our school. A small group from the PTA will be further developing plans in 2020 and additional people are needed to assist with this.
If you have experience in event planning or other expertise or would just like to be involved in this event please make contact with Karen on knathan@kohimarama.school.nz
Questions and Answers
Q: What are the school’s plans to cope with the growing population and subsequent increasing roll numbers at Kohimarama?
A: Both the School management and the Board of Trustees are actively working with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on short term and long term solutions. Kohimarama School has not had significant building and development works undertaken by the MOE in quite a number of years.
In the long term; our rising roll has meant that the school is working towards being on the MOE list of significant roll growth and therefore specific master planning for our complex site. The master plan will take into account the current buildings, future buildings and changes that will need to be made. This is in the hands of the MOE with significant BOT input.
In the short term we need to manage the growth. This means using spaces in the school differently, or making spaces that will support additional teachers and students. This also means monitoring and supporting teachers and students with additional resources such as Learning Assistants, part time teachers as required and to ensure that we do not disadvantage learners during this time.

Final Prizegiving Assembly – Wednesday 18th December 10.30am, Sacred Heart College
The Kohimarama School Prizegiving Assembly is our last day of school and all our students are expected to attend in correct school uniform. It is a great opportunity for us to meet together, celebrate the year and the outstanding achievements of our students.
In order for us to get there, students are transported by their parents to and from our Final Assembly at Sacred Heart College, 250 West Tamaki Road, Glendowie. Students in Cowley, Hillary and Snell Teams will meet with their class teacher at the front of the Auditorium at 10.00am and will walk in together as a class. Kiri Team students sit with their parents, so may arrive at 10.20am.
Students in the Ensemble Band, Choir and Kapa Haka need to be at the Auditorium at the times listed below, as we will be having a sound check for these groups before the Assembly begins.
Choir – 9.15
Ensemble Band – 9.30
Kapa Haka – 9.45
Car parking can be found on West Tamaki Road and Crossfield Road, plus Gate 4, which leads to a big parking area down by the pool. We expect the Assembly to finish at 12 noon, and students may be picked up from the front of the Auditorium at this time.
SchoolTalk Achievement Reporting
We are now ready to share your child’s End of Year Achievement and Progress Report with you. On Tuesday 17th December, you will receive an email from SchoolTalk with your child’s End of Year Report.
You can expect to see how your child is achieving against our school progressions in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and our Learner Dispositions. There will be a general comment about your child written by the teacher, and a reflection written by your child, if they are in Years 4 – 8. School participation will continue to be included at the bottom of our reports for those students who have participated in extracurricular activities.
Each report shows you how your child is achieving against each of the New Zealand Curriculum expectations of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. You will see on the right hand side of the report your child’s next learning steps. Some of these intentions also include resources for you to support your child at home.
Note new entrant students from Room 24 will receive a written report as they have been at school less than 6 months.

Auckland University Cricket Club Competition
Yesterday five Kohimarama year 3/4 and year 7/8 teams competed in the Auckland University Cricket Club schools competition. It was a whole day of cricket playing against other very good teams. The year 4 ‘Kohi Apples’ had an unbeaten run and won the final match against St Heliers 94 runs to 49, to take out the year 4 competition. Well done boys. Thank you to Anna-Lena Lockie for organising our school teams and another big thank you to all the parents helpers.
