A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you.

Thank you to all our staff for the work they have done this year with students. Continuing to raise academic achievement has made 2019 such a very successful year.

Thank you to our families and community. The support we receive from you all helps us make Kohimarama School an amazing community of learners.

Thank you to our students, who make us proud every day. Living the Kohimarama Values and using the dispositions make our students stand apart from others.

We look forward to seeing all our students and families tomorrow as we celebrate 2019 at our final assembly at Sacred Heart College. This is our opportunity to celebrate our students achievements and to farewell our Year 8 students as they finish their years at Kohimarama School.  We wish them well as they head off to College next year knowing that they are capable learners and will achieve great things.

Wishing all our families a very Happy Christmas.  Enjoy your family time together and the opportunity to rest and relax and recharge yourselves ready for 2020.

Paul Engles

Donations

The information contained with the class placement letter had a section on Kindo and mentioning school donations. The Board has been reviewing the donation amount to be paid annually, and will communicate with you in the New Year regarding the approach for 2020.

The Kindo account containing Activities, STEAM and Technology will be released as advised on 3 January 2020. The donations portion will be released once the Board has communicated with you in the New Year as to the approach for 2020, and once communication has been made the donation amount will be added into Kindo for donations to be made.

A big thanks as always to the school community for your support with donations, as they do make a huge difference to the quality of experience we can offer the learners at the school.

Class Placements, Stationery and Kindo Letters

Today children have been handed their class placement letters. This will tell you what class your child will be in, their teacher and the start date for 2020. You will also find a stationery letter with different purchasing options. Then a Kindo letter on how to pay your school fees.

Final Prizegiving Assembly – Wednesday 18th December 10.30am, Sacred Heart College

The Kohimarama School Prizegiving Assembly is our last day of school and all our students are expected to attend in correct school uniform. It is a great opportunity for us to meet together, celebrate the year and the outstanding achievements of our students.

In order for us to get there, students are transported by their parents to and from our Final Assembly at Sacred Heart College, 250 West Tamaki Road, Glendowie. Students in Cowley, Hillary and Snell Teams will meet with their class teacher at the front of the Auditorium at 10.00am and will walk in together as a class. Kiri Team students sit with their parents, so may arrive at 10.20am.

Students in the Ensemble Band, Choir and Kapa Haka need to be at the Auditorium at the times listed below, as we will be having a sound check for these groups before the Assembly begins.
Choir – 9.15
Ensemble Band – 9.30
Kapa Haka – 9.45

Car parking can be found on West Tamaki Road and Crossfield Road, plus Gate 4, which leads to a big parking area down by the pool. We expect the Assembly to finish at 12 noon, and students may be picked up from the front of the Auditorium at this time.

SchoolTalk Achievement Reporting

We have now shared your child’s End of Year Achievement and Progress Report with you.

You will see how your child is achieving against our school progressions in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and our Learner Dispositions. There will be a general comment about your child written by the teacher, and a reflection written by your child,  if they are in Years 4 – 8. School participation will continue to be included at the bottom of our reports for those students who have participated in extracurricular activities.

Each report shows you how your child is achieving against each of the New Zealand Curriculum expectations of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. You will see on the right hand side of the report your child’s next learning steps. Some of these intentions also include resources for you to support your child at home.

Note new entrant students from Room 24 will receive a written report as they have been at school less than 6 months.
