A Message from Hillary Team

Greats and Grands Day

On Friday Kohimarama School welcomed our Grandparents into the classes. During the morning Hillary Team had many activities that we did with our Grandparents. We shared our learning throughout the class such as our art pieces and writing. Many children created an acrostic poem about their Grandparents, or found the difference between what happened when their Grandparents went to school compared to school now. Some classes even created and played a board game with their grandparents, some of the games were about countries, or sports while others were similar to candyland. Some Year 4 classes even shared how to code with their Grandparents. We really enjoyed having our Grandparents come and visit our classes and see what we have been doing.

Year 5 Camp

On Monday, 21 October the Year 5’s set out for their camp at YMCA Shakespear Lodge in Whangaparaoa. We were all excited to be together and enjoy our very first overnight camp.

There were so many activities that we were able to participate in such as archery, kayaking, mountain boarding, bush cooking, orienteering and rock climbing. During our activities, we gained background knowledge about the activity, new skills around the activity and built on our team building skills. After a busy first day, we ended off our evening with some friendly competition. Each group created a chant and showcased their chant to everyone. The parents even participated and created their own chant. We played different evening games in the hall before heading off to bed.

We had so much fun at camp. We would like to say thank you to all the parent helpers who came to help.

The Kohimarama Way – Compassion

Compassion is having kind feelings toward someone who is hurt or troubled.  It is caring deeply and wanting to help, even if you don’t know them.  It is being kind and forgiving to someone who has hurt you.

2020 Class Placement Requests – closes on Friday 1st November

This is the time of the year when the Senior Management Team are looking at our roll numbers and staffing needs and the preparation of classes for 2020.  The process of placing children in classes is based on a range of information we have related to each child’s academic needs, achievements and social relationships.  It is a complex process to create the right balance in each class and meet the best interests of all our children, one that we take very seriously.

We invite you to provide us with any request for the placement of your child for 2020.  You can email

We will consider all such requests although we are unable to guarantee that we can accommodate them.  Please provide all requests before midday, Friday 1st November.

Students Leaving

If your child is not returning to Kohimarama School for 2020, please send a formal email to This helps us with classroom planning. Please provide all information before midday, Friday 1st November if possible.

Family Zone Meeting – Thursday 21st November at 7pm

We welcome you to join us in the school hall to find out how we at Kohimarama school are making devices at school even more secure and how you can do the same at home, if you wish.  There will be spot prizes that are definitely worth coming along for. We hope to see you there.

Debate Competition

On Thursday, our debate team went up against St Heliers school in two debates.
That human cloning should be permitted for the progress for humanity.  We were arguing against this moot and we won.
That the Internet has become more harmful than useful. We were arguing for this moot and we had a draw.
Congratulations to all our debaters; Charlie, Amelia, Zoe, Sean, Margo, Trixie, Natan, Tom, Mieke and Poppy.
