A Message from Snell Team
Last week Year 6 went on our camp. We went to Lakewood lodge which is just outside of Huntly. We arrived after an exciting bus trip that took about an hour. The girls had dormitories that have lots of beds in them. The boys sleep in a ̈luxurious barn’ next to the horses and the chickens that wandered around the camp.
There was an exciting range of activities including zip-lining across the lake, kayaking, rock climbing, low ropes, horse riding, and archery. Most of the activities would involve you getting muddy, so we had to wear old clothes and gumboots. All the activities were amazing, we practised working as a team and we made some new friends.
Another awesome activity at camp was the survivor challenge. This involved spending a day away from the lodge. Our first task was to build a fire that we used to cook our lunch and dinner on. We had to gather the wood and use a flint and steel to get it started. After lunch, we prepared for the mud-run, we had to go down a slippery slide and through lots of obstacles including climbing through tyres and under a rope net. After a hot shower, we moved on to the next task which was a dinner-making competition. We had various supplies and all groups created different meals such as hamburgers, meatballs, and good old mince and rice.
On the last day, we all competed in the iron-person challenge. We faced many obstacles including tyres, barrels and going under tarpaulins. In the end, we bombed into the lake and then we had a nice, quick and warm shower. After the challenge, we packed our bags, had morning tea then went home.
We couldn’t have done it without the parent helpers, all the staff and we would all like to say a big thank you to everyone that helped us get through the camp!
All of Year 6 had a blast on camp.
