A Message from the Deputy Principals

School Disco 2019

What a great night we all had for our school disco.  Our movie themed evening saw fabulous costumes at both our junior and senior discos and even staff who joined in with the theme.  DJ Dave made the evening so much fun with games including the limbo, getting in to groups of a certain number and line dancing – an oldie but a goodie.  Grateful thanks to our student leaders who organised the whole event – designing tickets, posters, the decorations for the two discos, the selling of the tickets each morning and afternoon and helping in the junior disco to make sure all our younger students had a dance partner and fun.  You are a phenomenal group of young people, outstanding in your field.

School Cross Country 2019

The Cross Country was run last Friday at school. Thank you to all the parents who came to support their students. Everyone ran hard and we all had fun. Thank you also to the house Captains who supported all teams of runners. They showed empathy and sportsmanship throughout the day encouraging all runners. Great job team. Below are the top three runners in all age groups.

The Kohimarama Way – Friendliness

“Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.  Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and just be my friend.” Albert Camus.  “The friendship that can cease has never been real.” St Jerome.

Student Safety and Parking Wardens

Some drivers are using the yellow lines and our neighbours driveways to drop off and pick up their child/ren at school.  We have been asking drivers not to do this as firstly it puts our students’ safety at risk and secondly, it is against the law.  On both Kohimarama Road and Rawhitiroa Road the road patrollers are unable to see passed these cars to put the signs out.  Those drivers that use driveways also inhibit people using the footpath, especially when they park over the footpath.  We have a number of walking school buses in operation around our neighbourhood, with a meeting place each morning and adult supervision to see them safely to school, we encourage parents to utilise this option.  Parking Wardens will be visiting our school at pick up and drop off times and will issue tickets to those breaking the law.

Photolife team, group and sibling photos – Tuesday 27th August and Thursday 29th August

All team managers have been advised of the time for their teams photo to be taken.  If you need further information please contact

Students please remember to bring your team uniforms for your photos. Sibling photos will be taken at some time over the two days for those families who have a completed sibling photo request form.

Important Date change to School Speech Competition  –  Monday 2nd September

Our School Speech Competition will be held on Monday 2nd September starting at 9.30am in our school hall.  This is an important event for our school as the best speakers from Years 5 to 8 compete to be our representative at the Interschool competition.  The change in date is to support our Year 6 students who will be incredibly tired after their camping experience this week – we want to ensure they are well rested and have had time to rehearse their speech before the final.  This year students in Snell Team have opted to present either a Persuasive speech or a Flash Talk (where they speak to 10 slides chosen about a certain topic).  Snell Team are trialling this format as next year all schools will be moving to a Speech Fesitival format that will allow students to choose from the following ways of presenting their information, Persuasive speeches, Rap, Spoken Poetry or Flash Talk.

Walking School Bus

As you will be aware we have 5 walking school buses and the parents that organise this are working very hard to make it a success. They ensured that at the end of last year we had 8 cuddly kiwis all inside a protective plastic bag with a label that says please return to school. Unfortunately we are now down to two cuddly kiwis which means that we will not have enough to hand out at assembly to deserving students. Please, if you have one or know of someone that has one could you please return them to school.

Lost Property

We are getting to that time of the term again where lost property is starting to build up. A reminder that this is always available to view in the back of the hall.

This week we will also have lost property displayed outside the hall both before and after assembly for you to view. If it is raining the lost property will be displayed on the balcony outside Snell Team.

Kiri Constructive Play

To support our constructive play during Discover Time, if anybody has any of these items, Kiri Team would be very grateful. Please drop off to the office or Room 1 or 2.
Duplo, Lego, blocks, train sets, mobilo, road making, cars, or any other Constructive materials.
