School community news and upcoming PTA events and initiatives
The Kohimarama School PTA is an enthusiastic group of parents committed to supporting our school and our children. Meetings are held at 7pm on the first Monday of the month in the school staff room. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss upcoming events, fundraising initiatives and other PTA activities. Meetings are open to everyone and are a great opportunity to have a glass of wine, a chat and hear a bit more about what is going on in your school.
Did you know?
- That over the last 2 years the PTA has raised over $150,000.
- In 2018 we are donating $90,000 to the school. This money is being used for IT upgrades and devices in the classroom, landscaping and playground upgrades, sports equipment, library books and a new phone system.
- Money from the PTA has purchased almost every one of the school’s IPADs and chromebooks.
- Every year the PTA donates at least $5,000 for the purchase of library books.
- You don’t need to wait until your kids are out of Kiri to join the PTA! The sooner you join the more your children will benefit from your time and effort.
- The PTA plays an important part in the school community. Here are a few other things we do around the place:
- Walking School Buses
- Ice-block Fridays
- Sushi Wednesdays
- Scholastic Book Club
- Road Patrol volunteers
- Second-hand uniform shop
We are looking for more parents to help the Kohimarama School PTA. We have a huge year ahead of us and we need more volunteers! So check out what’s up and contact email@example.com if you can help. Better yet – come along to our next PTA meeting on Monday 5 March and see how everything works.
We need some extra people to add to our roster of ice-block sellers. Volunteers are rostered on once a term 12.50 -1.20pm on a Friday. We are also looking for someone to take over purchasing ice-blocks and organising the volunteer roster. This would involve approx 1-2 hrs per month.
If our Sushi Wednesday trial is successful we will need people to help deliver sushi to classrooms on Wednesdays – 10.45-11.25am. Volunteers will be rostered on twice a term.
Are you organised, efficient and keen to help out your school? Our fabulous PTA team needs a new secretary. This office holder position involves up to 1 hour per week on email. You also need to attend PTA meetings – held once a month on a Monday night.
In September 2018 we are hosting the all important Kohimarama School Ball!!! The Ball is a bi-annual event for parents from Kohimarama School and is by far our biggest fundraiser. We already have people involved in planning this fabulous event but need more helpers. If you are keen to be involved, whether with the planning, collection of auction items, or on the night, we would love to hear from you.
We have some smaller events planned for 2018 as well – including our first urban orienteering event and Trivia Night. If you are able to help with any of these we would love to hear from you.
We still need a class co-ordinator for all of the Year 5 classrooms and Room 20. If you can help please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You’re welcome to team up with a friend and be co-ordinators together.
Landscaping Projects – Can you help?
School management, together with the PTA, is on a mission to enhance our school’s outdoor environment. There are some bigger projects in the works, but in the meantime we have allocated $10,000 to spend on gardening, landscaping and other small improvements over the course of the year.
This money will go a lot further if the wider school community gets involved. In particular we are looking for anyone with landscaping, gardening or building experience who is able to help – whether with the planning and design process or with making the ideas a reality. Even if you just have a few hours or half a day to spare, we would love to hear from you. Contact email@example.com.
If you can help source landscaping or building materials please let us know.
Sushi Wednesdays – pre-order today!!!
For the rest of the term we are trialling sushi Wednesdays giving you the option to pre-order sushi for your child’s lunch on Wednesday from the ricerunner website. We had a great start last week with over 80 orders. There was a bit of a wait – so going forward all sushi ordered will be delivered direct to your child’s classroom in time for lunch. For instructions on how to order go to the Sushi Wednesdays page.
Kiri Picnic (Year 1’s)
All Year 1 families are invited along to the Kiri Family Picnic! It’s a great chance to meet your child’s friends and other Kiri families and to join in the games on the field. Sausages, fruity ice blocks and water will be for sale or bring along your own picnic. Wed 21 Mar, 4-6pm on the School Field.
We’ve made a number of updates to the mural credits since the last newsletter. Please have a final check and email firstname.lastname@example.org if you need any changes.
