Welcome back to school and to the first edition of the Kohimarama School PTA newsletter for 2018!
For those of you new to School, this newsletter is designed to keep you informed of PTA organised events and activities, to communicate our fundraising goals and to let you know how the money we raise is used to by the School. If you do have any questions or feedback please let us know. And if you are interested in getting involved we would love to hear from you.
Kiri Family Picnic (Year 1’s)
All Year 1 families are invited along to the Kiri Family Picnic! It’s a great chance to meet your child’s friends and other Kiri families and to join in the games on the field. Sausages, fruity ice blocks and water will be for sale or bring along your own picnic. Wed 21 Mar, 4-6pm on the School Field.
Sushi Wednesday – New!!!
Do you ever feel like a break from making school lunch boxes? Do your kids ever ask for something more exciting than sandwiches? Well now we have an answer! Starting on Wednesday 21 February until the end of Term 1 we are trialling Sushi Wednesdays.
Pre-order your child’s sushi online by the end of the day on Tuesday and fresh sushi will be delivered to school for your child’s lunch on Wednesday morning. At lunch break, the kids can pick up the sushi from the hall kitchen, except Kiri kids who will have it delivered to their area. For instructions on how to order go to our Sushi Wednesdays page.
And to make this initiative even more exciting – 5% of the retail price goes directly back to the school.
Scholastic Book Club
Keep an eye out for Term 1 Scholastic Book Club flyers, which will be coming home in book bags this week.
Please place any orders by Friday, 23 Feb. Order online at the Scholastic Book Club, as no paper orders will be accepted. The books will then be distributed through school when they arrive. You can also view an online version of the flyer at the link above.
Come along to our next PTA Meeting
Our first PTA meeting for the year is on Monday 5 March at 7pm and we would love to see some new faces. We have lots of exciting events and initiatives on for 2018 and it would be great to get some new parents involved. For anyone who just needs an excuse for an evening out (!) there is wine and nibbles, and it’s a great way to find out a bit more about things going on in the School.
Urban Orienteering event
We are very excited to be organising our first ever Kohimarama School urban orienteering event with Shaun Collins from Lactic Turkey.
More details to follow – but this will be held during Term 2 and is replacing our Term 1 Fun Run for 2018. If you are interested in being involved in this event we would love to hear from you.
Thanks again to everyone who purchased and/or helped paint a mural block last year. Below is our list of mural contributors for review. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if there are any issues with spelling or if any names are missing. Unless specifically requested, we have referred to family names vs individuals. Once we are sure we have everyone’s names correctly recorded we can organise the sign.

We need a class co-ordindator for every class in the school for 2018. This is a fun, social role and a great way to get to know other parents. In particular it involves:
- Organising social events for the class and/or parents of a class. (This is often done on a year group basis.)
- Passing on occasional messages from the PTA to the parents of the class.
- Organising the end of year gift for the teacher.
If you are able to fill this role for one of your child’s classes, please email email@example.com. You’re welcome to team up with a friend and be co-ordinators together.
Landscaping Projects – Can you help?
School management, together with the PTA, is on a mission to enhance our school’s outdoor environment. There are some bigger projects in the works, but in the meantime we have allocated $10,000 to spend on gardening, landscaping and other small improvements over the course of the year.
This money will go a lot further if the wider school community gets involved. In particular we are looking for anyone with landscaping, gardening or building experience who is able to help – whether with the planning and design process or with making the ideas a reality. Even if you just have a few hours or half a day to spare, we would love to hear from you. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you can help source landscaping or building materials please let us know.
If you buy ‘Yummy’ branded fruit (sold at New World & Pak’n’Save) collect the stickers or bag labels and we can exchange them for new sport equipment. Go to the Yummy Stickers page for collection sheets and more info.
We have a range of second-hand items available. The approximate prices, depending on condition, are $25 fleeces, $15 polo t-shirts, $20 skorts and shorts, $15 sports t-shirts. Go to the Second-hand Uniforms page for more info.
Have you thought about joining a school walking bus? A short drive can be an amazing walk! If you’re interested in joining, go to the Walking School Bus page.
Remember to send $2 with your child on Fridays for a tropical fruit ice-block. They are sold in last break out of the Hall Kitchen window.
Look out for this terms Scholastic Book Club flyers in the book bags. Please place any orders online (or view the online flyer) at the Scholastic Book Club. No paper orders will be accepted.
